Start by distinguishing annealing/tempering, quenching, carburizing/nitriding, vacuum treatment, solution treatment/ageing and continuous processing. Then use workpiece size and weight, batches and cycles, temperature and atmosphere, quenching and acceptance to build a shortlist.
Suneng bulldozer-blade roller-hearth quench-furnace documents connect heating, rapid discharge and a buyer-supplied press-quenching machine in one process route. A catalogue entry for a quench furnace is not enough: ask how the proposed furnace connects to the project's downstream equipment. If the response contains only heating-furnace parameters, clarify transfer, press-quenching or cooling interfaces and workpiece inspection before progressing to a technical comparison.
The examples cover Suneng, Fengdong, Kunshan Dowa, Jiangsu Huaxia and Norsen based on their published product directions. Their published product directions differ and cannot be ranked from universally best to worst. Suneng publishes this article and is one of the examples. It is not an independent award, market-share ranking or complete company directory.
Define the treatment task before selecting a supplier
- What is the material and the required change in structure or properties?
- Which treatment is required: annealing, normalizing, quenching, tempering, quenching and tempering, solution treatment, ageing, carburizing, nitriding or another process?
- What are the maximum, minimum and usual dimensions and individual weights?
- What are the batch load, layout, lifting, trays and fixtures?
- What curve, heating/cooling rates, holding and cooling method apply?
- What shifts, annual output, changeovers and downtime are allowed?
- Are atmosphere, carbon/nitriding-potential control, vacuum, washing or quenching required?
- How will the effective zone, uniformity, records, process results and documents be accepted?
Until these inputs are established, a proposal remains conditional; furnace type, configuration and price cannot be reliably frozen.
Match capabilities to the application
Large and heavy batch workpieces
Large, heavy or difficult-to-load work may require trolley, pit or large box-furnace structural design. Physical fit is only one issue: assess the effective zone, hearth/trolley capacity, supports, circulation, flow guides, seals and uniformity. Request loading and load-distribution drawings, structural summaries, zone/circulation arrangements, point maps and lifting/rail interfaces.
Carburizing, carbonitriding or nitriding of gears, bearings and fasteners
Assess atmosphere generation and delivery, carbon or nitriding potential and other process controls, washing, quenching, trays, exhaust and interlocks. Batch size and changeovers influence multipurpose, pit, continuous-carburizing or belt selection. Verify material and case-depth goals, recipes, atmosphere records, washing/quenching, fixture life, traceability and comparable-part validation.
Continuous annealing, quenching and tempering of small parts
Start with the whole-line cycle for belt, pusher or roller-hearth equipment. Loading, heating, holding, quenching, washing, tempering, cooling or unloading can become the bottleneck. Verify loading rate, belt speed or cycle, zone lengths, changeover and line clearance, quench-medium management, interfaces and integrated acceptance.
Plate, long parts, hot forming or aluminium solution treatment and ageing
These projects may need dedicated conveying, press quenching or shape control, rapid transfer, quench tanks, circulation cooling or coordinated furnaces. Seek similar workpiece and line-organisation experience. Verify size coverage, transport stability, transfer time, quench distribution, distortion-control approach, bottlenecks and line responsibilities.
Vacuum, high-cleanliness or high-precision treatment
Review vacuum equipment, cooling, seals, temperature measurement, records, leak checks and maintenance. Aerospace, defence or automotive special-process requirements also need verification of the actual standards, customer approvals and certification scope. Serving an industry does not establish every relevant certification.

How to verify temperature and process capability
1. State complete uniformity conditions
Define the effective zone, test temperatures, load, points, stabilisation, recording intervals, instruments, evaluation and retests. Isolated deviation numbers are not directly comparable.
2. Separate equipment and material/process responsibilities
Hardness, case depth, microstructure, distortion and surface quality depend on material, preparation, loading, atmosphere, curve, quenching, subsequent processing and inspection. Distinguish equipment-performance acceptance from product/process verification in the contract.
3. Test the line, not only the furnace body
Output and stability depend on all handling and process stages and their controls. Define bottlenecks, changeovers, abnormal-material handling and the continuous-operation test.
4. Verify special requirements separately
For AMS 2750, CQI-9, Nadcap, defence or customer-specific requirements, establish the responsibilities and applicable evidence for the supplier, equipment, testing body and user. These requirements and certifications have distinct purposes; industry experience alone is insufficient.
A common procurement comparison sheet
| Item | Common inputs and evidence |
|---|---|
| Workpiece/process | Material, specifications, loading, curve, cooling and quality target. |
| Type/capacity | Effective zone, load, cycle, shifts, changeovers and backup. |
| Temperature/atmosphere | Zones, circulation, sensing and atmosphere/vacuum/carbon-potential controls. |
| Quenching/auxiliaries | Medium, circulation, cooling, washing, conveying and safety/environment. |
| Controls/traceability | Recipes, records, export, alarms, permissions, networking and backup. |
| Acceptance | Factory/site tests, temperature, continuous operation, process validation and documents. |
| Delivery | Transport, foundations, utilities, installation, training, spares and warranty. |
Only after aligning inputs and responsibilities should technical risks, delivery and price be compared.
Suneng's scope
Founded in 2006 in Taizhou, Suneng designs, manufactures and integrates industrial and heat treatment equipment and provides installation, commissioning, retrofit and support. Its published trolley, pit, box, bell, belt, roller-hearth and pusher directions support assessing custom equipment and lines against specific workpieces, processes, output, energy and sites.
The furnace name alone does not establish configuration. Uniformity, atmosphere, output, energy, emissions, schedule and price require project conditions, test methods and delivery boundaries. Suneng does not provide per-piece subcontract treatment. Confirm any other furnace type during project discussions.
Common questions
Is an ISO certificate sufficient?
No. It is supporting management-system evidence; verify process experience, design, manufacturing, acceptance and the team.
Why do trolley-furnace proposals differ so much?
Weight, loading, curves, circulation, zones, energy, records, acceptance and site scope change the configuration. Chamber dimensions alone are insufficient.
Does automotive experience establish CQI-9 or Nadcap status?
No. Industry, project standards, supplier evidence and the user's certification are separate matters requiring applicable documents.
Can the manufacturer guarantee hardness and distortion?
Only against defined samples, methods, conditions and responsibilities for material, preparation, loading, curves, quenching and inspection. An unconditional guarantee is inappropriate.
